Feasting on delicious banana bread breakfast made by Balagan Cafe while watching the Open Women come to a spectacular close this morning with Pauline Ado taking first prize. Pascal van der Mast is the first of team NL to surf his heat. Tide is high again so the contest is put on hold until 4:30 pm. Ruurd challenges everyone for a table tennis competition at the Naked Surf house in Guéthary. He beats everyone with his enthusiasm.

Back at the beach and the wind has increased dramatically and turned onshore. It is overcast and cold and all of us are shivering at the beach. Wave conditions are not optimal, but we Duchies know how to surf crappy waves such as these. Pascal comes out against Canada, Turkey, and France. He catches the first wave of the heat and throws a nice cutback on his second wave for which he scores a 3.50. The waves are not kind and his scores don’t get him through to Round 2, but to Repechage. Another day, another chance.

We have dinner at a nice tavern in Guéthary and plan for tomorrow. Roy van Eijk is surfing early morning against Vincent Duvignac from Team France. Stay with us for more action tomorrow!
